Sapphire Electric Company Limited
Sapphire Electric Company Ltd. (Sapphire) has been incorporated in Pakistan for the construction of a dual fuel combined cycle power generation plant at Sheikhupura Muridke Road near Lahore. Sapphire and WAPDA (Water and Power Development Authority) have negotiated the power tariff on a BOO basis over 30 years. The Government of Pakistan (GOP) issued Letter of Support (LOS) to the SECL project in September 2006 which serves as a mandate from the GOP to secure financing for the project.
The plant has a gross capacity (ISO) of 225 MW operating on a combined cycle mode of operation that will translate into 209MW net at ambient site conditions. The plant will comprise of two gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators and one steam turbine. Skoda of Czech Republic is the EPC contractor and the gas turbines will be supplied by GE.
